I am passionate about ecology and the environment. This enthusiasm stems from excellent undergraduate coursework, research opportunities, and experiences in internships, as a Peace Corps Volunteer, and as a Fulbright-Hays Fellow. I use this passion to create a stimulating and energetic atmosphere in the classroom, field, and laboratory. It is my belief that science educators should create opportunities for students to learn by participating in scientific inquiry and through research experiences and internships. As an educator, I will create these opportunities for students and help them critically evaluate these experiences through writing and public speaking.
My goals as an educator are: 1) to enrich student understanding of ecological processes and human interactions with the environment, 2) to engage students in scientific inquiry through field- and laboratory-based research experiences, and 3) to encourage critical thinking and communication skills by incorporating writing assignments and presentations into science courses.
